'The Social Aspects of Design / Design for Sustainability

This event will appeal to those interested in rethinking how we deliver products and their benefits without decimating the world around us, or compromising the well-being of others, as well as the social needs of citizens such as the disabled.

Presenters:
Paul Toyne - Head of Sustainability, Bovis Lend Lease
Paul’s presentation will provide an introduction to sustainability, exploring the drivers that influence the built environment. He will provide case studies on areas of innovation that show actions taken to address sustainability with an emphasis on design.

David Arthur - Technical Employment Support Adviser, Royal Society for the Blind
This presentation considers aspects of design that impact on two major groups of disabled people. With an increasing aging population, more and more people are likely to be affected by visual impairment or mobility problems. It includes an overview of how surroundings may appear to somebody with sight loss, and how providing for one group may conflict with needs of the other.

Wayne Tantrum - Director of Sustainable Development Group, Interserve
Wayne will focus his presentation on the effect of sustainable design on improving the ‘Patient Journey’ and the FM service provision in a PFI hospital.
