Mermaid Quay - Leisure Letting - Cardiff, Cardiff Bay

Date: 01 Feb 2006

Nando's Chickenland Ltd, the Portuguese flame-grilled PERi-PERi chicken restaurant chain, has taken a 2,658 sq ft (247 sq m) unit at Mermaid Quay, the 14,000 sq m (150,000 sq ft) mixed-use restaurant, bar, retail & leisure development set on the Cardiff Bay waterfront - a mile from Cardiff city centre. Mermaid Quay was developed by Sovereign Land and funded by Schroder Exempt Property Unit Trust.

The new Nando's - which is due to open in April 2006 - will be located on the ground floor of Mermaid Quay facing the waterfront between Pizza Express and Ba Orient, Cardiff's first oriental themed cocktail & dim sum bar. The 78-cover Mermaid Quay outlet will be Nando's second outlet in Cardiff.

The restaurant and takeaway will be kitted out in Nando's trademark rustic look with wooden furniture, terracotta tiling and genuine African art to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere - perfect for enjoying Nando's famous PERi-PERi chicken in comfortable, welcoming surroundings. The restaurant has a light open aspect with glass frontage and an area outside for diners to relax and enjoy the view of Cardiff Bay.

Nando's is the first new tenant for Mermaid Quay in 2006, following a very busy 2005 when 6 new brands - Tesco Express, Subway, Pizza Express, Ladbrokes, Bayside Brasserie and Breze - all opened. Several further lettings are now in the pipeline for 2006.

Letting agents for Mermaid Quay are Reid Rose Gregory, King Sturge and Philip Hughes Davies. Nando's was represented by Teague & Capital Ltd.
