Date: 26 Jun 2008
Savills has won two awards at the British Council of Shopping Centre's (BCSC's) Purple Apple 2008 Awards, prior to its victory at the annual Sceptre Awards winning the accolade of Shopping Centre Managing Agent of the Year.
Savills won a Purple Apple Merit in the 'Best Single Event' category for its Mascot Olympics event at The Theatre District in central Milton Keynes. Another Savills-managed property, The Brewery in Romford, Essex, won a Purple Apple Merit in Community Relations. This accolade was awarded to Savills' Marketing and Commercialisation team (SMC) in partnership with marketing agency, Grappa.
Katrina MacKay, associate director of Savills, comments: "We are delighted to have been recognised by the BCSC with its prestigious Purple Apple Awards, which set the industry benchmark for effective marketing.
"These two campaigns were very different, but both resulted in positive impacts for our clients by enhancing the visitor experience at the schemes, driving footfall and establishing them as the leisure / retail destinations in their respective areas. Moreover the local communities truly benefitted from the projects. It is a great achievement for all of the teams involved."
The Theatre District Mascot Olympics was a unique, fun, family-friendly event to celebrate Milton Keynes' 40th birthday on 23 June 2007. Mascots gathered from around the country and provided entertainment for the crowds as they competed in six events for the Olympic title. The Mascot Olympics appealed to a cross section of media both locally and nationally, including Sky Sports. The event achieved equivalent editorial coverage of £142,000 in advertising spend.
The Brewery in Romford runs an inclusion project, 'Playing to Win' in partnership with West Ham Football Club, which aims to engage the teenagers that frequent The Brewery, helping to improve the fitness and health of players, alleviate boredom and break down the barriers between youths living on neighbourhood estates. The scheme takes football coaching into the heart of local estates and has also created The Brewery's own football team.
