Michael Lynagh, Zinzan Brooke, Scott Hastings and Craig Chalmers tee'd off a charity golf event.
Rugby legends Michael Lynagh, Zinzan Brooke, Scott Hastings and Craig Chalmers joined Tesco staff as they tee'd off a charity golf event at the Forest of Arden golf club to raise a staggering £62,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, Tesco Charity of the Year 2009.
The sporting icons were joined by 144 keen golfers in a special tournament organised by the Tesco Property Services Team. The competitors fought it out over 18 holes at the beautiful Forest of Arden course to win exclusive prizes, including weekend breaks and top of the range golfing equipment.
Following the day's activities, the competitors enjoyed an evening meal before the rugby stars took part in a Q&A session. The event concluded with live entertainment and a charity auction featuring top lots, such as signed pictures of Pele and Bobby Charlton, tickets to sporting events, and lunch at Claridges.
Michael Lynagh said:
"I had a great day out on the course and really enjoyed the evening's entertainment. I'm delighted to show my support for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and hope the money we raised today will make a huge difference to the lives of many kids living with a muscle wasting disease."
Kevin Grace, Property Director, Tesco Property Services, said:
"I'm really pleased that our contracting partners were able to support a day that raised such a substantial amount for the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, our Tesco Charity of the Year. I know this donation will make a real difference to the charity and the people they support."
All the money raised through the golf day will go to the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign's Giving children equipment to be independent appeal. This campaign aims to raise £3 million to provide vital, specialist equipment, such as powered wheelchairs, electric page turners, and mobile arm supports, for hundreds of children living with muscular dystrophy across the UK.
Muscular dystrophy is a devastating, incurable and life-limiting condition that causes muscles to waste away, making children progressively weaker and preventing them from performing simple tasks that we take for granted, such as turning the pages of a book or brushing their hair.
