BDP - General - Birmingham,

Date: 01 Mar 2010

New Director for BDP's Birmingham Studio.

Mark Richards has joined the Birmingham studio of interdisciplinary architects and engineers BDP as Architect Director with responsibility for the retail sector.

Formerly based in BDP's London studio, Mark's new role will be to develop the retail and commercial sectors for BDP's Birmingham team, drawing upon extensive experience gained both in London and prior to joining BDP five years ago.

Despite the recessionary climate, Mark says enthusiastically: 'Although there is little current activity in the retail and office markets, my feeling is that 2010 is a year of preparation for developers and a very good time for us to form and revive client and project alliances in readiness for a renewed vigour in 2011. As we start a new decade this is a valuable time to enable building technology initiatives and evolving sustainability policies to catch up and support a healthier more local diversity in the future.'

Mark Richard's experience makes him one of the foremost retail architects in the West Midlands. He will work with Dan Smyth, head of BDP's Birmingham studio, to develop commercial opportunities in preparation for future economic recovery.

As project director Mark will continue to lead the major urban mixed use project, The Rock in Bury, due for completion in August this year.
