Tops Estates - Retail - Leeds, Shopping Plaza

Date: 05 Apr 2000

Tops Estates PLC ("Tops"), the specialist investor in town and city shopping and leisure centres, announce that, at their award winning Leeds Shopping Plaza, H&M Hennes have taken an additional lease of 15 years at a rental of £230,000 pa to open, in the Autumn, a new 13,000 sqft extension to their present 17,000 sqft store. The new store extension will have direct access from both Albion Street and City Square Mall. The store extension will further enhance the wide range of merchandise on offer in the Centre and will introduce a new market leader fronting Albion Street.

Construction works are now in hand to provide the extension, which will speed up the transformation of Albion Street, where Tops is currently in the process of carrying out the redevelopment of the adjacent and facing former Co-op Department Store.

H&M Hennes' new store will become the largest of the eight fashion flagship stores in Leeds Shopping Plaza, the first retail port of call from Leeds City Station, at which a major £165 million committed refurbishment programme by Railtrack is in progress. Upon completion at the end of next year, there will be substantial increases in the number of trains calling daily into the city.

Everard Goodman, Chairman and Chief Executive of Tops Estates, stated: "I am delighted H&M Hennes have chosen to increase the size of their very successful Leeds store and, when completed, the 30,000 sqft flagship will provide a further significant addition to Leeds Shopping Plaza, which confirms it as the prime fashion location and destination meeting point in Leeds."
